Villages & water are related
The value of water has been absorbed well in Indian culture. The rural persona adds more beauty to India and its exports of agricultural products, such as wheat , potatoes, onions and more. Since India is an agrarian economy, close to 80 % of water is utilised for agriculture purposes.
The prime source of water for irrigation is from :
- Glacial lakes & mountains in the northern part of India.
- Medchal road in fact is the national highway NH 44, that connects Srinagar to Kanyakumari, and is commonly used by travelers. The vegetation is abundant in the region.
- From rivers such as Godavari, Krishna, Tungabhdra and Cauvery in the southern part of India, besides some fresh drinking water reservoir such as Osman sagar in Hyderabad
- Monsoons are an essential source of water, which also helps in maintaining ground water levels. Did you know that the total groundwater percentage of India is about 435 billion cubic metres(BCM) and during summer months it becomes a challenge to meet the drinking water requirements of villages.

Realise the value of water :
Water is precious for crops to grow. More water is required for rice, rubber, wheat and pulses and since the staple diet of India is primarily rice, its production and harvest becomes even more important. Healthy irrigation and crop practices such as crop rotation, intercropping and agroforestry promise good yield that also keeps soil condition under check. .
Conservation of water should be an equal responsibility of all. Just imagine the plight of the residents in poor african nations such as Somalia, Angola & Niger, where people walk hundreds of kilometres with uncertainty, to fill a can of water and when they get water, the gleam in their eyes is satisfying to watch.
